Ivan had his first articles published when he was 16. He started his writing career in advertising before he joined the newsroom as a journalist in 1988. He spent 2 decades with SPH Media, taking on several roles from sub-editor, columnist to entertainment editor and creative director for The New Paper and Today newspapers.    

Ivan left the newsroom to write books in 2011. His debut 4-part series, Nightlife [Confidential] Vol 1 – 4 was a Kinokuniya Bestseller. The series was later inducted to the John Eclors Southeast Asia Collection at Cornell Library University, New York.

​Ivan is also the founder of Infected Studio. He is married to a visual artist and they have a teenage son, Alex, who is a painter.
