FAQ
COMMON QUESTIONS |
Brian Itzkin started his exploration into lutherie in his teens in Long Island, New York. Finding inspiration in his father’s woodshop, he crafted his first acoustic guitar from a C.F. Martin & Co. kit at 13. After college, he studied in Granada, Spain, under Stephen Hill – one of Europe's leading Spanish guitar makers. This ignited Brian's passion for the classical guitar, and he built and sold his creations through a Germany dealer at that time. The up-and-coming 26-year-old luthier is profoundly influenced by Spanish maker Antonio de Torres and the lesser-known Vicente Arias – blending a 19th-century aesthetic with a modern tonal range. Wait time for Brian's guitar is between six and 12 months.

The Conscious Practice
Although Brian's work is grounded in traditional methods, he is not confined by them. For example, he has been designing a double-top guitar, incorporating cutting-edge materials such as Italian Alpine spruce and aerospace-grade composite honeycomb. He also prioritises ethically-sourced and often recycled woods from repurposed furniture, which he says, “tend to be more affordable, which benefits the client". Brian enjoys selecting materials that match the client’s vision and witnessing their first notes on a new guitar. While confident in his work, he always seeks to improve – and finding new inspiration. “If I found one perfect thing and kept replicating it, it would become dull quickly,” he says. |

~Notable~
Brian’s instruments are beautifully built – they have a very refined appearance which leans towards the Spanish tradition but with a modern aesthetic. If Antonio de Torres were alive today, his guitars would probably look like Brian’s. The colours from his guitars are quite amazing – they possess a satisfyingly rich tonal palette with a deep, resonant bass and warm, well-rounded trebles. Torres will be proud. |
